The Jade Buddha Temple is a great example of an active Buddha temple. It is only a 30 minute walk north from our apartment. It was built in the 1900s and most of its original architectural still stands today. It is called Jade Buddha Temple, because inside it contains a 6 ½ foot high seated Buddha carved out of white jade with a robe of precious gems. It was brought to Shanghai from Burma. A vegetarian restaurant is attached to the temple. So you can enjoy the same tasty meal as the monks.
