Anh Thy’s brother, Vu, visited us in April for two weeks. He was our first visitor. It was really fun to have a guest in town. We enjoyed showing him around Shanghai and introducing him to our friends. He said he loved exploring Shanghai and eating the local cuisines. Vu was very adventurous and even tried the local street food!
One of the cities we visited was Suzhou. It is located about 50 miles north of Shanghai. It is best known for its classical Chinese gardens. Suzhou has over 100 gardens ranging from a small 100 square yard plot of land to a large 5 hectare park. We visited two well known gardens. The first one was Humble Administrator’s Garden, which was established in the 1500s. It is the largest and most famous garden in Suzhou. The other garden was Tiger Hill. In the center of the garden is an octagonal pagoda, Yunyan Pagoda, which leans to the north.
Our driver, Mr. Wang, took us to a local Chinese restaurant. The entire menu was in Chinese, so he ordered for us. That was our first time eating at a “local” restaurant. The lunch was cheap and surprisingly delicious!
